Jody Ahrens, Artist
The mystique of Jody’s unique
paintings is that they stimulate and entertain the viewer’s imagination …
offering a tranquil escape into the shapes within the depths of the
canvas.
Jody’s style is best described
as abstract realism ... an intriguing hint of realism is woven throughout
bold abstract passages.
The subject matter largely reflects rugged high country subjects
and total abstract. Colors and styles vary between
vibrant pure color glazes to muted palette knife applications.
Both of Jody’s parents were accomplished painters who
gave her a solid foundation in traditional landscape.
Living in Colorado for the past
15 years, Jody is a
Californian by birth. In addition to her art, she is a writer
/ producer for her corporate video production company.
ABOUT HER PAINTING PROCESS
Trash to Treasure
….rusty tin cans, fabric scraps, nails, discarded
electrical wire… they’ll never make it to the dump in Jody’s world. She
sees character and beauty in the quirky shapes, colors and textures of
everyday things that others have no further use for.
But it’s Jody’s energy and vision that turns these
objects into amazingly unique works of art that fascinate her
collectors.
Beginning with gesso and modeling paste she starts
arranging and affixing textured fabrics to a custom built hard-board
panel. As the work progresses, she adds random acrylic color and
begins nurturing and searching for the forms within.
Over the years, her ability to combine solid
landscape structure with abstract design and color has culminated in
works that blur traditional art boundaries. Each piece evolves
spontaneously as a uniquely different and powerful artistic
expression.
Oils, gold leaf, metallic and interference colors
make up the final layer that distinguishes her art. No two pieces are
alike, yet like twins, similarities do exist.
Jody Ahrens was born into the world of fine art.
Both of her parents were accomplished painters who delighted in
nurturing their young child’s interests. From her earliest memories
abstracts captured her heart.
While attending California Institute of the Arts,
she found the freedom of experimentation. The
unique style that emerged has won an abundance of awards,
and placed her work in corporate and private collections in the US and
Europe.
It is said that in the process of creating,
artisans instill energies into their works. From the first phase of
preparing the panels to the final varnish, Jody puts good medicine in
her work, drawing deeply from internal inspiration. Each finished piece
speaks a range of emotions to the viewer, from a tranquil escape to
lighthearted playfulness. It is Jody’s goal to add a dimension of joy
to the lives her work touches.
